The Houlton Road Trio are, as their name suggests, a trio of Canadian musicians based in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada.
They released their debut album, 2006.01.20, on April 18, 2006. It was available, free of charge, by mail order from the band's record label Five-Sixty Recordings. Pressed approximately forty-seven times, the album came as a black digipak with the band and album name spraypainted across the front by the band members themselves. Inside hid a single insert mostly detailing things like the location of the band and credits for the album. All of the songs on the album were improvised by the band and left unedited.
The band has spoken about its intent to continue releasing both new and old material throughout the year in various mediums. They have also expressed interest for further recording sessions and a small eastern Canada tour; however, the band is currently on hiatus until autumn [1].
Houlton Road Trio's debut performance took place on Wednesday, August 2nd at O'Toole Gallery, a small river-side folk art gallery in Grafton, New Brunswick. Opening for the band was Abigail Lapell, a singer/songwriter from Montreal.
