Howard Kurtz

Howard Alan Kurtz (born 1953, in Brooklyn, New York) is an American journalist, blogger, author and media critic. Kurtz is the primary media writer for the Washington Post.
Kurtz is the host of CNN's Reliable Sources and has written for The New Republic, the Washington Monthly, and New York Magazine. He is frequently cited as media writer and expert on media trends. He writes a column for the Post on media trends and issues. He is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Kurtz's unusual longevity as a beat reporter (he has covered the press since 1990 for the Post [1]) has made him an important figure in media analysis circles. Kurtz is widely read within the journalism business and quite respected, although some colleagues believe he has a tendency to be biased toward power, and those who have it. [2] Others believe he should not be covering the news business because he is so widely published and has the potential for many conflicts of interest. [3]
Some conservatives charge that Kurtz inserts liberal commentary into his column and ignores any evidence of liberal bias in the media. They allege that Kurtz avoids labeling other media figures, which some conservatives believe reveals his own bias. [4] Others assert that Howard Kurtz takes conservative positions under the guise of non-partisan media commentary. [5] Still others contend that Kurtz is biased toward the right, specifically that his coverage of the blogosphere selectively targets extremism on left-wing blogs.[6] For his part, Kurtz has declined to state his political affiliation, leaving it to others to divine what his political views are.
He is married to Republican consultant and commentator Sheri Annis.[7][8] He has 3 daughters, one with Annis and two with his first wife, Mary Tallmer.
