Mission: Hunger-Free Arkansas, Inc. (HFA), is a registered, 501(c)(3), tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to the service of the hungry and homelessness, in Little Rock, Arkansas. HFA receives no grants, government or tax-payer funding, but is supported by the generosity of the caring community of conscience in our community, and the donations of time and effort from our volunteers.
About HFA: Founded in 1999 by Executive Director Patty Lindeman, HFA serves the poorest of the poor, at street level, and over the years, has established a trust relationship with its clients, which enables the organization to provide them help and comfort on a variety of levels. HFA provides not only food and clothing, but counseling and referral to sources of help (medical, psychological, substance abuse treatment, housing, legal services, job training and placement, GED, pregnancy counseling, Medicaid, disability, veteran's services, churches, and more) with whom we network, as a cooperative community effort.
HFA, Inc., is also at the forefront of advocacy for the rights of the homeless and poor. We are proud members of the Arkansas Homeless Coalition, the National Coalition for the Homeless, in Washington, DC, the Central Ark. Team Caring for Homeless (CATCH), the Ark. ACLU, and the National Legal Center on Homelessness and Poverty, in Washington DC.
Though our mission is based upon the Christian principles of the Corporal Works of Mercy, we are not evangelical in nature (no needy person is required to hear a sermon in order to be fed). We offer grace before meals, offer prayer when our clients request it, and are non-judgmental; we attempt to see each client as an individual, as God sees him/her, and the needy of all faiths are more than welcome at our humble table.
HFA started out, in 1999, serving the homeless each Saturday, under the Broadway Bridge, in all seasons, and in all weather. For the past 3 years, we have been blessed by being allowed to serve at the Stewpot Soup Kitchen, under the auspices of the 1st Presbyterian Church at 8th and Scott Streets in Little Rock.
HFA has no overhead costs; no paid employees at all, no office to maintain (the director and volunteers work out of their homes, on their own computers, phones, cars, etc.); we have no budget for advertising, only word of mouth. 100% of any and all donations go directly to food, clothing, and necessities of life, for those who truly have nothing.
