The village, originally known as Hearne, was served by rail from 1863 to 1935, and the station building and platform are extant and used as the Avon Causeway Hotel.[1]
The surname Hurn is derived from the old English "hyrne" which means a corner or disused part of a field, sometimes the land sectioned by an oxbow lake. There is a large concentration of Hurns in East Anglia in the U.K.
