Talk:Hydrocarbons on other planets

[edit] Deletion?
Is there any point to this article? It's only purpose seems to be to mention the idea that space ships might be able to mine hydrocarbon-based fuel from planets and/or moons. While this is a common theme in science fiction and computer games, it remains pure speculation in the real world. If someone can find a decent study of how this might be done, the pertinent information should be included, and the study referenced. Another possibility would be a discussion of how this theme has been used in science fiction, but I don't think the current title would be appropriate for that. Otherwise, I think it should be removed. Dalbury 16:06, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
Nominated for deletion for the reasons given above. - Dalbury 22:41, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
See P.E.R.M.A.N.E.N.T.. I see this article as a stub that should be part of (or incorporated into) Future_energy_development#Speculative. —Reply to David Latapie 23:19, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Or renaming?
It would be worth renaming the article Energy sources on other planets, in order to encompass things such as helium-3, or else Extraterrestrial energy sources, to add space and stars as well as planets. Just a thought. —Reply to David Latapie 23:26, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
The article as originally written probably would have been deleted, but User:Denni rewrote it completely, and the article no longer has anything to say about the use of any hydrocarbons found on other planets. I think any attempt to reinsert speculation into this article is a problem. I recommend reading the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hydrocarbons on other planets. - Dalbury 02:11, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
