"I'm Gonna Crawl" is a song on English rock band Led Zeppelin's 1979 album, In Through The Out Door. It was composed by John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
Heavily influenced by the American 1960s soul-blues style of Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, the music to "I'm Gonna Crawl" was in large part composed by Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones. The song tells of a girl that "drives me crazy... she's the apple of my eye. I love the lady. I got to be her fool." However, Plant's passionate delievery, as well as the line "Every little bit of my love," is actually in tribute to his son Karac, who tragically passed away in 1977.
John Bonham noted this as one of Robert Plant's best vocal performances.
The song begins with a synth-string arrangement, courtesy of John Paul Jones. The verse section of "I'm Gonna Crawl" is played in the relative keys of C major and A minor, an intrinsically keyboard-friendly key. Guitarist Jimmy Page plays an arpeggio based on this key; manipulating the tone of his typically overdriven guitar to a controled "crunch," using a combination of his guitar's volume knob and an extreamly light application of the plectrum. Page turns in a particularly emotional guitar solo.
