"I Drove All Night" is a song written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly for Roy Orbison. Orbison first recorded the song in 1987, but his rendition was not released until 1992. The song was subsequently a hit for Cyndi Lauper (1989), Pinmonkey (2002), and Céline Dion (2003), respectively.
In 1992, Jeff Lynne remixed Orbison's recordings for the posthumous album King of Hearts, released the same year by Virgin Records. The song was significant hit in the United Kingdom, reaching #7 on the country's national singles chart. King of Hearts and "I Drove All Night" were generally well-received in the United States, returning Orbison to the Billboard charts and receiving a Grammy Award.
Country band Pinmonkey released a version of the song in 2002 which reached #36 on the Country chart.

[edit] Cyndi Lauper version
"I Drove All Night" was recorded by Cyndi Lauper for her third album A Night To Remember.
Cyndi Lauper said she wanted to do it because she liked the idea "of a woman driving, of a woman in control": she liked the unique concept. While the album was not as successful as her previous releases, the song was a Top 10 pop hit in the U.S. (her last U.S. Top 10 - and Top 40 - single to date) and a hit in other countries. The single was also certified gold by the RIAA. The video caused some controversy in the states because of its sexuality.
The only official remix of the song for Lauper's version is the "Jungle mix," a version that incorporates supposed jungle noises.
The song has become one of Lauper's most performed and well known tracks. Lauper still performs it on most of her concert tours.

[edit] Céline Dion version
"I Drove All Night" was recorded by Céline Dion for her One Heart album. It was released as a single on March 3, 2003.
The song was featured in promotional ads for the Chrysler Pacifica crossover vehicle.
Several club remixes were created, mainly by Hex Hector.
"I Drove All Night" music video was directed by Peter Arnell and released on February 26, 2003. It was included on the UK enhanced double A-side single "One Heart/I Drove All Night."
The song was very successful, reaching #1 for five weeks in Canada and spending one week at the top in Belgium and Sweden. It was Dion's third airplay-only single that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #45 (#46 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay). The commercial single was released five months later (#26 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales).
"I Drove All Night" was certified platinum in Belgium (50,000) and gold in Australia (35,000). According to Nielsen SoundScan it sold 51,000 copies in the U.S.
Céline Dion performed it during her A New Day... show and that's why it was included on the A New Day... Live in Las Vegas album in 2004.
