IE 22000 Class
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 22000 Class Railcar is to form a significant part of the future Iarnród Éireann’s Intercity fleet. The first sets were delivered in early March '07. The fleet, ordered from Mitsui of Japan, was built by a partnership between Rotem of the Republic of Korea and Tokyu Car Corporation of Japan who supplied the bogies.
There are to be 51 sets in all, 41 three car sets (mostly seating 192 passengers but the last eleven may have a different seating layout) and 10 six car sets (seating 378 passengers including 36 in first class).
There is an integral 12.8 L, 6 cylinder, 483 bhp engine (MTU 6H 1800 R83[1] similar to those of the UK Class 170s) in each carriage, driving both the hydraulic transmission and the electrical generator for on-board services. The engines are controlled from either cab. The sets can be combined together to a maximum of nine coaches.
Features of the Intercity railcar fleet include:
- Automatic PA and information display systems
- Fully air-conditioned
- Internal CCTV system for improved security
- Modern catering facilities
- Individual base seating
- Advanced safety features throughout.
- The first six sets will be fitted with TPWS/AWS for operation on Northern Ireland Railways
