The romantic leads in Hollywood films are usually the same age, or sometimes an actress is paired with an older man. Older actresses have charged age discrimination, or ageism, in casting. Occasionally, movies are made where the actress is older than her leading man. This is a list of those movies, along with the age differential and the stars' names.
Interestingly, some movies about a May-December romance, such as The Graduate, have less age difference than movies where age-blind casting is used such as Bull Durham.
The actress might be older because the leads are a real-life couple such as Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell, Susan Sarandon/Tim Robbins, Courteney Cox/David Arquette, June Carter Cash/Johnny Cash, Kim Basinger/Alec Baldwin and Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz or because she is accepting roles for which she has outgrown such as Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich.
