The Ilgachuz Range is one of the three eroded, major shield volcanoes in the Anahim Volcanic Belt in British Columbia, Canada, located 20 miles (30 km) north of Anahim Lake. The Anahim Volcanic Belt includes other immediately-nearby ranges, the Rainbow and Itcha Ranges. It was formed when the North American Plate moved over a hotspot, similar to the one feeding the Hawaiian Islands, known as the Anahim hotspot. The shield volcano erupted special kinds of low-viscosity magmas, the youngest of which are several million years old. The highest peak of the range is Far Mountain. Like most volcanoes in British Columbia, it is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire that includes over 160 active volcanoes.
