Virender Sehwag became India's 29th official Test captain when he led the national side in the third Test of the 2005-06 series against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad. Rahul Dravid, the incumbent, had to miss the game due to illness. India won the Test by 259 runs to take the series 2-0. Sehwag scored 20 and 30.
