I've added a correct link to degree (angle) in the Inclination line - since almost all usages of this template were requiring manual correction from degree to degree (angle) - Ian Cairns 22:39, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

This isn't going to work. This is inserting a double link to degree (angle) into existing articles using this template. I guess the template will need reversion. How then will we ensure the correct usage of degree (angle) rather than the disambig degree ?? Ian Cairns 22:42, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

The short answer is we cannot. Luckily, it is relatively easy to spot the pages that need amending. Go to the degree page (the redirect one), ask for What links here. The list is short, and any wayward asteroids will be immediately spotted. Meanwhile, I'll update the AstOrb Browser utility application so it produces the correct link (it was written before degree moved to degree (angle)).

[edit] Satellites

With the discovery of 2003 UB313, the so-called tenth planet, it would be nice to be able to display any satellites of minor planets -see talk:2003 UB313. Would it be possible to change the template to reflect this? Thanks - Berek 11:34, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Not unless you're willing to fix the hundreds of pages that would be broken by the addition of a template parameter. I suppose a bot could do this, but I have no clue how to write one. The additional parameter should be an all-purpose one along the lines of "Notes:", so we could mention moonlets, twin-lobed asteroids, extinct comets, and so on.

A better solution might be to create another minor planet template, like this one but with the satellite stuff added (somewhat like the johnston archives data sheets).

The solution applied with S/2000 (1998 WW₃₁) 1 was to add an optional argument to the template. This argument, astron, has a default value of "helion"; changing it to "astron" makes the template sufficiently generic.

I was wondering why the orbital element T, the time of the Perihelion passage, was left off this template? — RJH (talk) 23:00, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

The time of Perihelion passage can be calculated from ω, M, (and the Epoch, if you're interested in an actual time). Apart from that it's just a convention of the moment I think. Q, q, P and speed are also redundant in principle. Personally I think that while Q, q, and P are useful for a rough picture of the body's motion "at a glance", the speed is pretty useless. T would have a usefulness somewhat greater than speed, and much less than Q,q and P imho. Deuar 17:46, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
