[edit] Purpose and use of the template

This template is meant to replace the infoboxes that are/were in use for Turkish cities and towns because of the different administration structure here.

[edit] Green boxes

Woah! What happened? Today the nice crests and town logos are gone! They were Map1 and Map2. Now there are green boxes marking the missing fields, many of which are not able to be filled. What is this "locationinireland.gif"? This is turkey, so how did it get in here? Also, the text in many field overlaps. Very ugly. I don't see how this was changed, but since this template hasn't changed, nor have any of the pages using it, this must come from above.--Patrickneil 15:27, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] optional fields

I put back map1, changed the descriptions and tried to make map1 and "periph" optional. Pages without map1 however still show a green box above the map. And I'd like most of the fields to be optional because only a few pages that use this template have all of them, especially area, population density, postal code, area code and license number. Also, it bothers me that license is spelled licence in the template. On that topic, for anyone using this template, here's a list of Turkish license plate numbers.--Patrickneil 17:02, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

• Re [1]: I removed the defunct <div>..</div> elements for now. Wasn't there a location dot on Diyarbakır? I'm not sure....
• Per the example in the section above: specifying a logo for a parameter named "map1" IMHO is a bit strange ("map1 = Alanya_combined_logo.png"). Patrick: could it be that you misunderstood something here? (I don't know, I'm not an expert on this template here)
• Image:locationinireland.gif is nothing but a simple dot with a rather funny name. Maybe there is some nice little dot picture somewhere out there on this wiki with a better name. But technically, the name of the dot picture is not that relevant (besides being confusing).

Fair. The way I use the logos is consistent with other town pages, so even if it's called map1 and map2, they page looks like the New York City page with a photo, the logos, and a map. Right now however, I'm concerned with this "total population" change. Can pages with "Population" but not "Total Population" display that as they always had? Why even rename the "Population" variable "Total Population", just have it display "Total Population." It looks silly to have Istanbul with no population listed. Same thing with the website. The mayor's website should still be the city site. I see no reason to rename it.--Patrickneil 22:31, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

It's already obvious that this is for cities in Turkey because of the Turkish flag. Mustafa asked me to see {{Infobox Town GR}}, and don't see the word "Greece" up there at the top. It just clutters the infobox. Khoikhoi 06:58, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Your samples are not represent the case since they dont use standart Canadian Infobox templates. Correct samples are here:{{Template:Infobox_Town_Canada}}

Approximateyl half of other infoboxes include Country name in the body of infobox.

Anyhow, to have Country name in infobox gives to reader a correct guide. There no reason to delete Country name, flag etc (specifically from Turkish templates), if we have not other motivations.

The other infoboxes don't have flags however. By having the Turkish flag I think it makes it obvious that the city is in Turkey. Also the opening sentence will say it anyways, making it reundant. Having both the flag and ", Turkey" in the infobox makes it too cluttered. Khoikhoi 08:27, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering, I found a list of governors of my town, and wanted to integrate them to the page. The link from the infobox under governor however goes to the province. Should this refer to the province governor or the kaymakam, translated as governor, of a district. I want this to refer to the district governor, but wasn't going to change it just yet.--Patrickneil 00:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
