Inner City (Budapest)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Inner City (Hungarian: Belváros) in its narrow, historical sense forms the southern half of District 5 of Budapest and it is located in the centre of the city. In this sense, Belváros comprises the old town in Pest side of Budapest. The traditional shopping centre of Budapest (Váci utca, i.e. Váci street, and surrounding streets) is located here. Some people say, Budapest is a very centralized city. It can be true for tourists who usually start sightseeing here.
The Inner City in its more usual, broader sense includes the area inside the Grand Boulevard, i.e. District 5 in full (the above Inner City and Lipótváros), plus the inner parts of Terézváros (District 6), Erzsébetváros (District 7), Józsefváros (District 8), and Ferencváros (District 9).
[edit] Transport
Budapest's three existing metro lines converge at Deák square where the blue and the red lines meet the Millennium Underground Railway. There are several bus, tram and trolleybus lines in this area.
