Interferon Producing Cells
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Interferon producing cells (IPCs), also known as natural interferon producing cells (NIPCs) are specialized cells which secrete up to 1000-fold more interferon than other cells. They make up less than 1% of the total leukocytes, and are present in the blood. IPCs are mobile sources of large amounts of interferon, and respond to viral infections as well as bacterial infections. For the ladder, they utilize TLR-9 receptors specific for bacterial DNA.
