Interstate 269
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Interstate 269 (abbreviated I-269) is a proposed outer beltline around the city of Memphis, Tennessee, and its adjacent suburban areas in northern Mississippi. The sections of the route which are currently open are designated as State Route 385 (in Tennessee) and Mississippi Highway 304.
As of 2006, the only portion open to traffic stretches from U.S. 51 in Millington, Tennessee, east to Interstate 40 in Arlington, and is signed as part of Tennessee SR 385; construction is currently underway on the portion of the route from Arlington south to U.S. Highway 72 in Collierville, Tennessee, also to be signed as part of Tennessee SR 385.
On January 17, 2006, the Board of Supervisors of DeSoto County, Mississippi, entered into an agreement with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to issue bonds to finance construction of Interstate 269 between the I-55/I-69 interchange in Hernando, Mississippi and future Interstate 22 (existing U.S. Highway 78) in Byhalia, Mississippi. [1] This portion of the route may also carry the Interstate 22 designation.
A similar arrangement is likely to be used to fund construction of the remaining portion of the route.
