Interstate 605 (abbreviated I-605) is a proposed second bypass to Seattle, outside Interstate 405. While most proposals define I-605 as simply an outer beltway running through the vicinity of North Bend and Monroe, alternative proposals have placed as far out as east of the Cascade Range. Some proposals also have provisions for the road to be tolled. Currently the Washington State Department of Transportation is widening SR 18 between Auburn and Interstate 90 from a two-lane highway to a four-lane limited access freeway. Three-fourths of the project is completed, with the final stretch to I-90 still to be constructed. SR 18, once completed, could become signed as I-605.
