Iragbiji
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Iragbiji (also Iragbigi) is a town with a population of 250,000 in Osun State, Nigeria, and is inhabited by the Yoruba people.[1] It is the birthplace of artist Yinka Adeyemi.[2] As of 2006, about 75% of children in 5 different local schools were found to have intestinal helminth parasites (a type of parasitic worm.) [3]
According to local history, the town was founded by a hunter chasing an animal. After he finally caught and killed the animal, he sat down under an ira tree, and other people joined him. The literal meaning of Iragbiji is "a settlement under a shady tree." [1]
