Is this band really notable enough to merit an article? The link to so many uncreated articles makes me think perhaps not, and i'm not sure IainBanks and Neil Gaiman liking them counts. ora 09:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Any comments? Having looked at the AfD gudielines for music at WP:MUSIC I don't think ist qualifies for an article. The only possible things to qualify it woudl be being at Summer sundae, but single persofmances don't seem to be in the guideleines, and the Kevin Hewick appearance, but I think from the guidelines it would be better for this to be mentioned on his page. I'll leave it another week or so but unless anyone else comments I'll list this in AfD. ora 12:13, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

ist believe in interacting with their fans; lead singer Kenton Hall has said "with fans and bands, there shouldn't be a divide" and that "it's a friendship between the two." In accordance with this belief, they keep in contact with thousands individually, a fact which has made their worldwide fanbase very loyal and active in their promotion. [1]

personal blogs are not acceptable sources

It has been praised as being an album of intelligent pop songs, being compared to The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" [3]

one non-notable source can't be used to back up a claim like that.

A strong motivation of the band is the idea that mainstream culture is dominated by advertisers and marketers who care more about profit than progression of art. The members of ist stress the importance of new technologies, particularly the internet, as useful tools for a band to market itself. [4]

Taking advantage of internet networking sites such as Myspace the band hopes to find success with as little help as possible from traditional avenues such as record label A & R firms, which they feel hinder an artist's creativity. In 2004 the band started a worldwide e-mail campaign to promote their music which they release on Leicester-based label, Pink Box Records.

Fan interaction is important to the members of ist because they would like their fans to feel that they are within reach. The band's Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/ist is active with over 10,000 "friends" who leave comments, listen to streaming music and interact with the band members themselves who run the page. ist has even gone so far as to solicit fans' suggestions and comments on their newest album "Toothpick Bridge" which is still in progress.

I tried to rewrite this but the best I could reduce it to was 'ist use the internet to promote themselves' which didn't really seem not worthy. There aren't many bands that don't in some way. Anyway got any better ideas?
