It's Like That (Run-D.M.C. song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"It's Like That" originally debuted in 1983 along with "Sucker M.C.'s" back to back on a cassette. Both eventually received praise from the media [attribution needed] as the first rap song with grittier and harder beats, overpowering legendary hip-hop pioneers like Grandmaster Flash, Kurtis Blow, and many others. The song marked the start of Run-DMC's career and was featured on the trio's eponymous debut album.
The song is actually about how hard life is in the area where the group live (unemployment, prices, death, etc). In 1997, a remixed version by DJ Jason Nevins was released in Continental Europe, and this would top the charts in many countries and finally top the UK chart in 1998 and remain there for six weeks.[citation needed] Despite its popularity, Nevins only got paid the standard flat-rate fee.[citation needed]
[edit] Selected lyrics
This song on its 1998 release was responsible for making the Spice Girls song "Stop" fail to reach the top of the UK charts for the first and only time.
Run:
Unemployment at a record high
People coming, people going, people born to die
Don't ask me, because I don't know why
But it's like that, and that's the way it is
D.M.C.:
People in the world try to make ends meet
You try to ride car, train, bus, or feet
I said you got to work hard to want to compete
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Huh!
