The URL www.itv.com is the address of the main website of ITV, the UK's biggest commercial broadcaster. The website offers news, sport, weather, entertainment, games, a MovieClub, a shop as well as ITV programme information and TV listings.
Each of ITV's digital channels, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITV Play and CITV Channel have a page with information on their programming. Live streaming of ITV Play is also available on its site. There are also pages for the ITV regions owned by ITV plc. The regions not owned by ITV plc each have their own, separate websites.
Due to the major rebrand of the ITV "family of channels" in January 2006, itv.com received a new look in the summer of 2006 ditching it familiar itv.com logo for one that read only 'itv'. Currently, the ITV4 minisite has a different look to the rest of the site, the reason why is unknown.
The URL 'www.itv.com' was created on 31 October 1994, but was registered elsewhere for some years before Carlton Television and Granada Television, who have since merged to form ITV plc, bought the domain name. The original ITV URL was www.itv.co.uk, which used to redirect to itv.com but now no longer in use.

[edit] Re-design and Video on Demand
On October 11, 2006 ITV confirmed that US digital agency Schematic would design a next-generation video-on-demand itv.com website as well as ITV's own digital media player.[1]
The new ITV online will feature a media player through which viewers gain access to simulcasts, previews and catch-ups of broadcast content within a 30-day window. Aside from major sporting events and other premium content, this programming will be free.
The portal will also make available some 1,000 hours of exclusive archive content, which will grow over time.
The portal will also introduce interactive services and community elements.[2]
