Gli Stryper sono un gruppo Glam metal/Christian metal formato a Orange County, California, USA nel 1983. Sono considerati i pionieri del Christian Rock come fenomeno di "mainstream". Il gruppo ebbe notevole successo durante tutti gli anni 80 fino al loro scioglimento nel 1992. La band si è poi riformata nel 2003 pubblicando l'album Reborn nel 2005.
Il nome "Stryper" deriva da un verso della Bibbia (Isaiah 53:5:)
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
Inoltre la band ha dichiarato che il nome sta per:
"Salvation Through Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement, and Righteousness."
