J. D. Wilkes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Col. Joshua "J.D." Wilkes (b. 1972 in Baytown, Texas), a native of Paducah, Kentucky, is a visual artist and musician. Wilkes is most well known as the founder and only remaining original member of the "southern gothic" rock band Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in the late 1990s. His wild and unpredictable on-stage antics, often compared to Iggy Pop and Marilyn Manson, are as celebrated as the band's music. Wilkes is a colonel, though not a military officer — he has the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel, which is accorded to Kentucky's stars and notable citizens by the governor. He has recorded harmonica for such artists as Merle Haggard, Mike Patton, and Hank Williams III. In 2006, Wilkes began work on a documentary film titled J.D. Wilkes' Seven Signs.
