To all it may concern: I am embarking on a very necessary Wikibreak for the next two and a half months. I should return sometime in late May 2007. I will continue to occasionally check my talk page and watch list, but will not be actively contributing in the normal manner for some weeks. All the best, jackyd101

[edit] Early articles
As my user page was becoming cluttered and the articles I am currently working on are all at the bottom, I have created this subpage for the earlier articles I worked on soon after joining Wikipedia. Many of these are small (some are stubs in fact) and do not, or did not comply with style guidelines although this has mostly been fixed by other users. I still keep an eye on these and edit them when necessary. These articles are mainly concerned with terrorism and disaster management.
I have recently begun tentatively attempting to bring some of these articles to the standard I now set for my new articles through more sources and information and an improved writing style. Those I have done this with are below.
[edit] At Sea
As a keen naval historian, I have a large number of very interesting books about the perils of the sea and disasters which have occurred upon it as well as histories of individual notable ships. Some of those I created or enlarged are below.

[edit] U-boats
Too many either written or planned for here, see my sub-page for the pages I have worked on.
Also
[edit] Short First World War articles
A series of short articles focusing on British warships sunk duirng the First World War. Due to the articles small size (due to lack of sources on their careers), many of these many be considered stubs.
[edit] People
Random people I encounter in my reading who lack pages, but deserve them.

Trafalgar Captains Project

I have also expanded sections of the articles for the following people as part of my Trafalgar captains project:
[edit] Military Operations [3]
[edit] Sports Tournaments
A collection of the articles I have created (or am intending to create) based on major sports tournaments.
[edit] Rugby Union
Detailed fixture lists created for these already existing articles.
[edit] British Home Championship
An effort to create a record of all 88 British Home Championship football tournaments with all games, scorers and a brief overview. The articles are named after the year in which the tournament was completed, as some tournaments followed the season and thus were played autumn-spring over two years.

[edit] Useful ideas for Wikipedia coverage
I recently realised something. There has been a lot of debate about whether terrorist incidents or accidents should include lists of the names of the people who died in them. There are good reasons for both inclusion and exclusion, but there is a way to have both. If the articles are written originally or in an update to include a list of names, and then re-edited removing that list, then the list still exists in a page's history. A link can then be provided on the talk page with a note explaining that the list of people killed has been removed in accordance with Wikipedia policy, but that people interested can find it by following the link. That way, articles don't look like memorials, they don't get consumed by lengthy narrative lists, and there aren't any arguments about whether the list should be there, while at the same time, people interesed in seeing the list of names are able to do so via the talk page.--Jackyd101 18:24, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
