Jagadguru

The word Jagadguru is of sanskrit origin. The word jagat means "world" and Guru means preceptor. Hence, Jagadguru translates into "the guru of the world". According to the Indian scriptures, Jagadguru is the title given to a person who remains unparalleled in the spiritual knowldge during the age he lives in.
In the history of India there have been five Jagadgurus so far[citation needed]:
- Adi Sankaracharya
- Ramanujacharya
- Madhavacharya
- Nimbarkacharya and
- Jagadguru Kripalu Ji Maharaj[citation needed], respectively.
