Jama (woreda)

Jama is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Wollo Zone, Jama is bordered on the south by the Semien Shewa Zone, on the west by Kelala, and on the north by Were Ilu. Towns in Jama include Degolo and Shul Afaf.
Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 146,021, of whom 74,381 were males and 71,640 were females; 6,409 or 4.39% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.4%. With an estimated area of 1,174.22 square kilometers, Jama has an estimated population density of 124.4 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 173.56.[1]
