James Bow

James Bow (19 April 1972) is a Canadian novelist.
Bow was born in Toronto, Ontario, growing up not far from Chinatown, just south of the University of Toronto. He attended high school at Harbord Collegiate Institute where he took an interest in geography and urban studies. He and his family later moved to Kitchener, Ontario, where he attended the University of Waterloo, studying urban and regional planning.
Bow has had two major interests in his life, which have granted him some attention. His interest in urban planning was closely connected with his love of trains, subways, streetcars and public transit. In 1997, he and Aaron Adel launched Transit Toronto, a website operated by enthusiasts chronicling the history of public transit in the Greater Toronto Area. The site now receives over 3000 hits per day and was profiled in The National Post.
His other interest was in writing, sparked during his teenage years by his love for the television program Doctor Who. Bow wrote his first fan fiction story when he was fourteen and went on to publish extensively in Canadian Doctor Who fandom, editing two fanzines and working with many young writers. Realizing he was enjoying writing more than he was his paid employment, he tried his hand at writing professionally. His first published novel, The Unwritten Girl, appeared in 2006. A sequel, Fathom Five, is scheduled for release in April 2007.
He still lives in Kitchener with his wife Erin Noteboom, herself an award-winning poet, and their daughter Vivian.
