James E. Taylor High School, also known as Katy Taylor High School, is a public high school in Harris County, Texas, near the city of Katy. The school, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Katy Independent School District and is a 5A institution. It opened in 1982 and is rivals with Katy High School. In 2006, the school ranked as the 495th 'Best High School in the Nation' by Newsweek Magazine.
Taylor High School has long been known for excellence in both academics and athletics. It is a Blue Ribbon School and has ranked among the best in graduation rates, SAT scores, college admittance, and AP scores. The Academic Decathlon team has won two national championships and numerous state titles. The theatre department also has several UIL state championship wins. The tennis team has reached the state playoffs for 13 years running (as of 2007), and has tied the state record with 3 championships. The school also has a very successful swim team, winning the state championship in 2001 and 2003. The Taylor orchestra is renowned nationwide, performing many times at New York City's Carnegie Hall and having numerous students placed in the All-State orchestra.
