James Erskine, 14th Earl of Mar

James Thorne Erskine, 14th Earl of Mar and 16th Earl of Kellie, DL (b. March 10, 1949) is a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords.
Educated at Eton College, he was Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II in 1962 and 1963. He is Premier Viscount of Scotland and Chief of the Name and Arms of Erskine. Since 1991, he has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Clackmannanshire.
He has sat in the House of Lords since 1994. There, he is Liberal Democrat spokesman on Scotland, an assistant whip and sits on the Constitution committee and the Religious Offenses committee.
In order to remain in the Lords after the removal of most hereditary peers in 1999 he was created a life peer as Baron Erskine of Alloa Tower, of Alloa in Clackmannanshire.
Note: Owing to a nineteen century dispute, there is another Earl of Mar, Margaret Alison of Mar, 30th Countess of Mar.
