James L. Bentley

James Lynnwood Bentley (15 June 1927-07 November 2003) was a former comptroller general (today insurance commissioner) of the American state of Georgia. He served in that capacity from 1963-1971. Originally a Democrat, Bently switched to the Republican Party in 1968 and unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 1970.
Bentley was born in Upson County, Georgia. Bentley was closely associated with Herman Talmadge in state politics.
