James Mann (1946-) is senior writer-in-residence at the Centre for Strategic International Studies (CSIS). He served as Chief of the Beijing Bureau of the Los Angeles Times (1984-89). He is the author of three books: Beijing Jeep (Simon & Schuster, 1989), About Face: A History of America's Curious Relationship With China From Nixon to Clinton (Knopf, 1999), and Rise of the Vulcans: The History of Bush's War Cabinet (Viking 2004).
