James O'Higgins-Norman

Dr. James O'Higgins-Norman is an Irish academic and sociologist. His research is in the area of wellbeing and student behaviour in second-level schooling. He is the author of a number of texts including Ethos and Education in Ireland (New York: Peter Lang, 2003), At The Heart of Education (Dublin: Veritas, 2004) and Straight Talk: Researching Gay & Lesbian Issues in the School Curriculum (Dublin: DCU Press, 2006). Born in Dublin Ireland he has a Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (1994), a Higher Diploma in Education from University College Dublin (1996), a Masters Degree in Education from the National University of Ireland Maynooth (1999)and a Doctorate in Education from the University of London (2006). He is currently a lecturer at the School of Education Studies in Dublin City University. Dr. O'Higgins-Norman has led a number of important research projects on homophobic bullying in schools funded by the Gender Equality Unit of the Department of Education & Science and the Equality Authority. He has also been a member of the National Council for Curriculum & Assessment's Sub-Committee on Interculturalism and the Ministerial Advisory Group on Men in Primary Teaching.
