Jan Borren

Jan Joachim Borren (born September 27, 1947 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands) is a former field hockey player from New Zealand, who was a member of the national teams competing at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He was born in Holland, just like his younger brother Arthur, who won the golden medal with the NZ field hockey team at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
Borren stayed involved in hockey after his playing career, and became the head coach of the NZ women's national team in 1998. After the disappointing 11th placing at the World Hockey Cup in Perth, Western Australia (2002), he announced he wouldn't reapply to coach the team for the next two years.
During Borren's coaching term New Zealand finished fifth at the 1999 Champions Trophy, first at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2000, sixth at the 2000 Champions Trophy, sixth at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, fifth at the 2001 Champions Trophy, fourth at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, fifth at the 2002 Champions Trophy and 11th at the 2002 World Cup.
