Jan Tříska

Jan Tříska (IPA: [ˈjan ˈtr̝̊i:ska]) (4 November 1936 in Prague) is a Czech-American actor. After signing Charter 77 proclamation he emigrated to the United States via Cyprus. Before the emigration he performed in theater and played in many movies, for example in movie version of Raduz a Mahulena (1970) and in communist propaganda piece 30 případů majora Zemana. In the U.S. he was playing for example assassin in Miloš Forman's The People vs. Larry Flynt and appeared in Highlander, Osterman's Weekend and many others. He returned to Czechoslovakia after the Velvet Revolution of 1989 to perform in movies like Obecná škola (1991), Horem pádem (2004) and appearing in Academy Award nominated Želary (2003). Tříska received Alfréd Radok Award for performing 'Lear' in King Lear at the Summer Shakespeare Festival at Prague Castle. Despite his occasional visits to the Czech Republic Tříska continues to live in the United States.
