Janice Hahn

Janice Hahn is a member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 15th district. Hahn was elected in 2001 and reelected in 2005, running unopposed. The 15th District encompasses the Los Angeles communities of Watts, Wilmington, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City, Athens on the Hill, and San Pedro.
Prior to her service as councilwoman, she was elected in [[1997 to represent the 15th district on the Charter Reform Commission, which resulted in area planning commissions, neighborhood councils, broader mayoral powers, among other new policies.
Before elected to these local positions, Hahn was a businesswoman. She served as Public Affairs region manager at Southern California Edison, then as Vice President for Prudential Securities in Public Finance, then as Director of Community Outreach for Western Waste Industries, and most recently as Director of Marketing for the Alexander Haagen Company.
Hahn was elected to her posts not only because of her business background, but because of much community activism including serving as President of the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, President of the Board of Directors of the Harbor Area Gang Alternative Program, Chairwoman of the South Bay School to Career Alliance, member of the Board of Directors of the Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club, member of the Board of Directors of the South Bay Private Industry Council, member of the Gardena Economic Development Committee, and member of the Harbor Area Advisory Board with Habitat for Humanity.
She is the sister of former mayor James Hahn, daughter of former county supervisor Kenneth Hahn, and niece of former city councilman Gordon Hahn.
[edit] Janice Hahn's Mark on San Pedro's Roadways
One of Janice Hahn's most visible and talked-about marks on San Pedro has been on its roadways. Since her election, Councilwoman Hahn has installed a litany of stop signs throughout San Pedro, and has synchronized traffic lights to slow down drivers in an effort to increase safety. These measures have met with acclaim by the elderly and safety activists. However, many of San Pedro's drivers express agitation at the noise pollution, increased drive times, frequent break services, and widespread stop-and-go traffic that accompany an increase in stop signs and continuously resynchronized traffic lights. Neighborhoods traversed by motorcyclists and muscle cars are hit the hardest by the obnoxiously loud noise of engines roaring from stop to stop.
