[edit] Starost or Elder?
How should we call the ruler of the Eldership of Samogitia? Iulius 07:04, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Elder has a different meaning, I think. --Lysytalk 07:32, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Nowadays the admnistrators of Lithuanian eldersips are Elders. What about those times? Iulius 07:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Considering articles on Starosta and Elder (administrative title) it is rather obvious that starost it the correct term. It is the official title he had, as described in Offices in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Btw, when did the office of starosta was introduced to Lithuania? Union of Horodło mentions only castellans and voivodes. The offices are a historical mess (when I was writing the 'Offices...' article I discovered it was virtually the system of exceptions :D).-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 18:05, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
