Sum 41 Pain For Pleasure The Operation M.D. |
Jason McCaslin (born September 3, 1980 as Jason Paul McCaslin), better known as Cone, is the bass guitarist and backup vocalist of Canadian pop punk band Sum 41. He was born in Toronto, Ontario and he joined the band as the last member of its current lineup in February 1999, replacing Mark Spicoluk. Sum 41 was signed by Island Records only months after he joined (as he likes to remind the band).
McCaslin picked up his first bass when he was 14 when he joined a grunge garage band, called Second Opinion, with Avril Lavigne's former drummer, Matt Brann and other neighbors in high school. They had already picked out their instruments, and as the bass was the only instrument left when he joined, he had to play it. Before joining Sum 41, he was an usher at a movie theatre and he acquired the nickname "Cone" from fellow band member Deryck Whibley in high school because he frequently ate ice cream cones at lunch.
In Sum 41, Cone was probably the more community-closer member of the band as he was the most frequently visible member of the band who talked with the public and answered the official site Q&A.

[edit] The Operation M.D.
Cone has started a side project called The Operation M.D. with Todd Morse (Juliette and The Licks, H20) in 2002, but only started work on it recently. The Operation M.D. have demos on their MySpace[1] and their debut album, We Have an Emergency will be released on February 20, 2007 by Aquarius Records. His nickname in the band is Dr. Dynamite.
He sings 3 songs, one song being "Someone Like You", which will be appearing on the debut record.
