[edit] Biography
Montanaro was born in Mamaroneck, NY to Laura Montanaro, a Cuban-born Jewish socialite. He attended Mamaroneck High School, then later attended Brown University and was vice-president of the Brown Debating Union. He first began to show interest in news broadcasting at age 19, when he, in collaboration with documentarian Norman Cowie, created a public access television show entitled "Montanaro Weekly." The show was subject to immense criticism by the public television audience and eventually left the air after only one season. However, Montanaro was far from discouraged and continued with his television production efforts. He dropped out of Brown to attend the Tisch school at New York University. It was there that he formed a partnership with actor Steve Goodman. They spent the next four years creating what would eventually become Montanaro's first commercial success, LMC-TV News.
On April 18, 1999, Montanaro was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his work in community television raising public awareness on several crucial issues, as well as his generous philanthropy.
Montanaro currently lives with his mother.
