[edit] History
JAPW was founded by "Fat" Frank Iadeavia on April 19, 1997, during the heyday of the original Extreme Championship Wrestling. As a result, it tried to be an edgier version of ECW, focusing on bloody matches and other types of violence. Its original slogan was "Blood is better", and "Fat" Frank was involved in many of these matches under the name Lou Diamond. JAPW was featured in a news cast about ultra-violent wrestling and the backyard wrestling phenomenon that featured Low Life Louie Ramos stapling himself repeatedly on television.
A ban on "hardcore" wrestling caused JAPW to turn down the violence level and run more traditionally booked shows. JAPW managed to rebound by focusing on more pure wrestling, and has been running shows throughout New Jersey, as well as venturing into Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
The JAPW World Heavyweight Championship was vacated on January 23, 2007 after Teddy Hart was stripped following him being fired from the company. Reasons for his firing were backstage problems with booking issues, other wrestlers, and management.[1] A new champion will be crowned on March 17th in a ten man gauntlet match.
