thanks for your work on Empress Myeongseong. however, i'm concerned that this article is already way too long, and, more importantly, lacks inline citations. i tried to trim the wording a bit, so that the historical background is briefly summarized, and the article can become a concise biography of the person. as it is, i hope to reduce the bulk of the article by moving chunks into other more relevant history articles, once the original author adds inline citations.
since you seem to be much more knowledgeable than me about this period, could you add details and citations at articles like Korean Empire? i think the current versions of this period at Joseon Dynasty has some errors too. & the amount of information in myeongseong is way out of proportion compared to Daewon-gun Silhak and Treaty of Ganghwa, for example. we don't even have an article for Gapsin Jeongbyeon.
my point is that you will have more of an impact on readers and the quality of wikipedia if knowledgeable editors focus first on the more general articles that more people will see, and work to balance the growth of other articles which are now in pretty embarrassing shape. thanks. - Jh.daniell, if you don't mind, I'll do a little grammatical and phrasing editting on your otherwise very nice contribution to Empress Myeongseong. I second Appleby's comments about needing some related topics expanded. In particular, I'd like to see more on both Silhak and Donghak. Right now the only context for Donghak is the peasant rebellion in Cholla do in the 1880s. We need historical and geographic context for that - for example, what is it about Cholla do that would result in rebellions - or political protesters like Kim Daejoong? My wife is related to the Chinan Chun clan, and they tell the story that their name used to be Wang, ie King, until they were forced out of power, so they put on hats (look at the character for Chun - it's Wang with a hat) and moved down to Cholla do in disgrace and shame. --Dan 16:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
daniell, contributors to wikipedia simply need to let go of the natural sense of ownership of our own edits. re your work on Korean Empire, it is simply wikipedia's policy to name articles by common english names. thus, South Korea, not Republic of Korea. there's no way around this, unless you first get consensus to change the basic wikipedia-wide policy. there are some exceptions, but i don't see what exception applies here.
while i am glad to see korean history articles receive attention and much-needed content, i am concerned that so much material is being added without inline citations. without links to sources that others can check, there will be no way to defend any content if challenged by other editors at any time, & all your work may be for naught.
also, please note that roman transcription is primary, & foreign scripts are usually not needed except for the article subject. please see other korea-related articles for examples. there are other stylistic edits that we all have to accept, once we put our work into this encyclopedia "that anyone can edit." please do not revert for the sake of reverting. please use the discussion pages (e.g. Talk:Korean Empire) to discuss further. thanks.
