James Calvin "Jimmy" Rollins (born November 27, 1978 in Oakland, California), nicknamed "J-Roll", was the Philadelphia Phillies' second round draft pick in 1996.
He played NorCal baseball with Dontrelle Willis and Pat Burrell.
Coming into his rookie season of 2001, there was a lot of hype surrounding Rollins and his blistering speed; he didn't disappoint and had 46 stolen bases that season. Many Phillies fans were excited at the thought of having an up and coming lead-off man of his potential.
Rollins has been named to the National League All-Star team three times (2001, 2002, 2005).
Rollins' average numbers per 162 games are:
BA .273 HR 12 RBI 63 BB 53 Runs 103 SB 35
Aside from his offense, Rollins is a solid defensive shortstop, with few errors and a powerful arm. Rollins is one of the few people in baseball capable of having double-digits in doubles, triples, home runs, and stolen bases.
Rollins owns the longest hitting streak in Philadelphia Phillies history at 38 games, achieved during August 2005–April 2006. His streak is the longest in the majors since 1987, when Paul Molitor hit safely in 39 consecutive games, and the longest in the National League since Pete Rose's 44-game streak in 1978. It is currently the eighth longest streak in Major League Baseball history.
2006: Rollins struggled in the first half of the season (.259 AVG, .744 OPS, 9 HR, 40 K) while hitting leadoff, but went on a tear after the All-Star break (which he was not invited to) with a .319 AVG, .965 OPS, 8 HR, and 15 K's. He set the Phillies' franchise record for home runs in a season by a shortstop with 25.
Rollins combined with Chase Utley in 2006 to become the first pair of middle-infielders in National League history to hit 25 home runs each in the same season; Rollins hit 25, while Utley hit 32.
In Feburay 2007 he procliamed that the Phillies were the team to beat in the National League East.
Rollins currently resides in Woolwich Township, New Jersey, a Philadelphia suburb.
