Jinxed!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jinxed! is a comedy movie directed by Don Siegel and, after Siegel suffered a heart attack during production, an uncredited Sam Peckinpah stepped in to finish the film. Famous for being Don Siegel's last movie, Jinxed! starred Bette Midler and Ken Wahl. Jinxed! was also known as Jinxed (no "!") in America where it debuted in 1982.
In the film, Rip Torn plays a gambler who, along with his lounge-singer wife (Midler) track a young casino dealer (Wahl) on whom Torn has a jinx in the hope of winning big. However, Midler and Wahl fall for each other and decide to do away with her husband.
Midler and Wahl fought viciously throughout filming, making no secret of their open hostility towards one another. Years later, Midler stated that director Don Siegel was also hostile towards her. In turn, he has said the experience of working with her was extremely unpleasant.
The film was an immediate flop, and Midler was largely blamed, effectively curtailing her career in film for 4 years, when "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" was released to popular and critical success.
