Local author and historian Jim Millard is the publisher of the America's Historic Lakes website and several books and articles about the history of the Lake Champlain and Lake George regions. He lives in the Champlain Islands of Vermont and is employed by Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont.
Millard's "Fort Montgomery: Through the Years... A Pictorial History of the Great Stone Fort on Lake Champlain" is the only book ever to be written about Fort Montgomery. Millard has been working to correct the many misconceptions and errors [some previously found on Wikipedia] about this great structure for years. Often, the fort is confused with the earlier Revolutionary War fort located on the Hudson River. That fort, in stark conrast to nineteenth-century Fort Montgomery on Lake Champlain, is a well maintained (and funded) New York State Historic Site.
