Johan Rising
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johan Rising was the last governor of the Swedish colony of New Sweden in Delaware. After becoming governor in 1654, Rising tried to expel Dutch colonists from Fort Casimir (present-day New Castle, Delaware). The New Netherlands governor, Peter Stuyvesant, called Dutch troops into New Sweden as a response. The colony was overrun and ceased to exist.
