John Ferguson (musician)

John Roger Ferguson (born October 20, 1978) plays keyboards and sings with The Apples in Stereo, was the drummer for Ulysses, and was a founding member of Big Fresh. Ferguson was born in Nashville, Tennessee. His parents moved to Owensboro, Kentucky when John was four. He received his first guitar at age nine. His father, Roger Ferguson, was, and is, a a good friend of, and frequent collaborator with underground DIY figure, R. Stevie Moore, and John began appearing on Moore's recordings and radio shows by age three. He began writing and producing his own recordings while still in high school. During his freshman year of college, Ferguson teamed up with hometown chums Ben Fulton and Bryan Gore to form Big Fresh in 1998. After recording their seminal album, "We Come From Outer Space," in Nashville, they added Jeremy Midkiff to the lineup, and a year later, Danny Coy. The band, known for their extremely positive energy, sense of humor and pop sensibilities became popular in Lexington, Kentucky and around several southeastern colleges. In 2000, Ferguson married Kendra Adkisson and they settled in Lexington. Ferguson met Robert Schneider of The Apples In Stereo in 2002, and they began collaborating, which led to Ferguson and Fulton joining Schneider to form Ulysses. They released their cd-- 010 in 2004 on the Eenie Meenie label. During this period, Ferguson continued working with Big Fresh. In 2006, Schneider invited him to become a member of the Apples In Stereo. Ferguson performed background vocals on the latest Apples In Stereo release-- "New Magnetic Wonder." Ferguson continues to collaborate with R. Stevie Moore, perform with Big Fresh, and hosts a radio show caled The Percy Trout Hour on WRFL-- Radio Free Lexington.
