[edit] Biography
John Rider was a soldier in the Parachute Regiment. He had fought in the Falklands War and was decorated with medals. He and his brother, Ian, were recruited by MI6. He goes deep undercover to spy on Scorpia. On one of his missions, he was sent to kill a drug dealer (The Commander) in the Amazon jungle with Yassen Gregorovich, which he succeeds in while saving Yassen's life at the same time, which caused Yassen to be greatly relieved and was indebt to John. Alan Blunt (Chief of MI6 in the books) says that John was recruited with Ian, but John was by far the better soldier.
He married a nurse named Helen and has a son named Alex.
He was sent to Malta supposedly to kill his sixth victim but was "captured" by MI6, while his accomplice, Yassen Gregorovich, was allowed to escape, so that he could tell Scorpia what had happened. He then plans a double-crossing exchange on Albert Bridge, in which his death be faked and the safe return of George Adair, son Sir Graham Adair, an important government official who was the permanent secretary to the cabinet.
Julia Rothman, one of Scorpia's executive heads, found out that John faked his death and killed him and his wife, who were flying to the South of France by plane to take a long vacation, by arranging a plane bomb to be placed in their luggage, while Alex got an ear infection at last minute and had to stay behind with a nanny.
