Pennsylvania native Jon Wurster has been the drummer for indie rockers Superchunk since 1991. Wurster has recorded and/or performed live with artists like Jay Farrar, Robert Pollard, Rocket from the Crypt, Ryan Adams, R.E.M., Guided by Voices, Marah, Alejandro Escovedo, Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple, The Minus 5 and Charlie Daniels. Currently he is touring as a member of The Mountain Goats.
Wurster is one half of the Scharpling and Wurster comedy team. Tom Scharpling is the longtime host of the "Best Show on WFMU" radio program and Wurster calls in as a bevy of characters including The Gorch, Philly Boy Roy, Corey Harris (of Mother 13), Hippy Johnny and Timmy von Trimble. The duo has been releasing CDs on their Stereolaffs label since 1999.
Wurster is a contributor to Harp and Modern Drummer magazines.
Wurster was a friend of legendary joke punkers The Dead Milkmen when he was younger. Wurster's name is even mentioned in a couple of Milkmen songs such as "Stuart" in which he oddly enough is the main character.
