Jonathan Rosenblum

Jonathan Rosenblum (also known as Yonason Rosenblum) is the director, spokesperson, and founder of Jewish Media Resources, an organization which attempts to clarify journalists' understanding of Haredi Jewish society.

Rosenblum himself is a graduate of the University of Chicago, Yale Law School, and Ohr Somayach's main branch in Jerusalem. Although once a self-identified Conservative Jew, he is now a Haredi rabbi and journalist who writes for many publications. These include columns in the Haredi magazine Mishpacha; Haredi weekly Yated Neeman; Haredi daily HaModia; the mainstream Israeli weekly Maariv; the Jerusalem Post; the Baltimore Jewish Times; the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America's mouthpiece, the Jewish Action; and the English edition of Agudath Israel of America's mouthpiece, the Jewish Observer. He is a founding writer of the online Haredi journal Cross-Currents. Rosenblum's articles usually fall under one of several common themes: they portray Haredi society in a positive light, condemn those in Haredi society who do not follow the rulings of Haredi gedolim, attack clergymen involved with non-Orthodox denominations, or examine various aspects of anti-semitism. His articles in the Yated Neeman fall out of this general categorization, however, and are often simple political analyses.

In 1992, Rabbi Rosenblum wrote an extremely lengthy article attacking Rabbi Norman Lamm's book, Torah Umadda. ^[1]
Rabbi Rosenblum condemned both the gay parade and the haredim who demonstrated violently against it ^[2].
On the genocide in Darfur, Rabbi Rosenblum had the following to say:

...[a] possible explanation of our inaction is that there are others to carry the ball on Darfur, whereas we are the only ones who will address our special concerns – the future of the Jewish people, the preservation of Torah learning, the hardships faced by so many families within the Torah community...As the segment of the community most imbued with an awareness of the collective mission of the Jewish people in history, and that fulfillment of our mission as Jews cannot be separated from the study and observance of Torah, it is both natural and right that we should focus our energies on our particular world mission as Jews....Yet even those of us who devote ourselves exclusively to the study and teaching of Torah must not lose sight of the fact that we do so because our unique role is to bring human history to its ultimate goal, when all mankind will be filled with knowledge of Hashem – lesaken olam b’Malchus Shakai. In order to be Hashem’s instruments for tikkun olam [world repair], we must remain constantly aware of our responsibility for every aspect of Hashem’s world and of how far the world is from its ultimate perfection. In that context, knowing and caring about what is going on in Darfur can inspire us to greater devotion to our unique task as His Chosen People.^[3]
