[edit] John Browning (son)
I've tried to write a compromise set of words to describe John Browning. The recently added wording claimed categorically that he was "the most prolific". I've used the phrase "one of, if not the, most important figures in the development of modern automatic and semi-automatic firearms". There's a couple of reasons here:
- Most prolific is pretty measurable - it shouldn't be stated without a citation.
- This actually ignores his importance! Any old nobody could churn out rubbish gun designs, and become "most prolific" - that wouldn't make them important in any way.
Note, the wording on the main article is "He is arguably one of the most important figures in the development of modern automatic and semi-automatic firearms". Jamse 12:05, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- The new wording is ambiguous. John Browning was THE most important figure in modern firearms development, hands down. It's no contest. Others made contributions in many areas. Among them is Bill Ruger, Hiram Maxim, John Pedersen, and Mel Johnson. --Asams10 17:37, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
