José Luis Calderon (born October 24, 1970 in La Plata, Argentina) is an Argentine football striker who currently plays for Estudiantes de La Plata in his home country.
After a promising spell in the youth system of Club Defensores de Cambaceres, he was transferred to the team he's a fan of—Estudiantes, where his goals helped the team return from relegation in 1994. Later, he has played for Club Atlético Independiente and Arsenal de Sarandí in Argentina, as well as CF Atlas and Club América in Mexico. He also played for Italian side S.S.C. Napoli during the 1997-98 season.
Calderón had only a brief interlude with the Argentina national football team; he had a fight with the coach, which probably diminished his chances to playing for the national team.
Nicknamed "Caldera", he is well known for a 48-metre goal he scored against Boca Juniors in 1998 and for his hat trick against derby rivals Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on October 15 2006.
